RECONSTRUCTING IRAQ WATCH: Writing in
Boston Review,
Khaled Abou El Fadl attempts to reconcile Islamic jurisprudential traditions with liberal democracy. In the
Washington Times,
Mark Pomar (president of the International Research and Exchanges Board) highlights issues needing to be addressed early in the democratization process. In NRO,
Peter Brookes suggests how to make UN involvement more workable, if it happens. Predictably,
Matt and
Daniel have been making astute arguments as well (which I'll respond to as soon as the weather becomes less dern gorgeous in DC); they each also provide several additional links.
Many thanks to Zach Mears for his suggestions for these! There have also been other very timely, well-written pieces on the subject this week, but for reasons of spousal humility I can't point out
all of them.... :)
