SICKENING, SICKENING, SICKENING: Labour MP and Father of the House Tam Dalyell complained of a "cabal of Jewish advisers" which, in his paranoid imaginings, were exercising undue influence over the Prime Minister. Among the putative cabal-players: Lord Levy (the Prime Minister's Middle East envoy, and the only actual Jew on the list); Foreign Secretary Jack Straw (who has a Jewish grandparent), and Peter Mandelson (whose father is Jewish).

In a flimsy denial, Dalyell attempted to make things right by saying that his remarks were not anti-Semitic. Instead, he said, he was simply being ... "candid." Right.
