THE NEW YEAR'S HONOURS LIST, released today by Downing Street, includes Tim Berners-Lee, a man who has as good claim as any to have invented the World Wide Web, writers Graham Greene, John le Carre, Aldous Huxley, and Evelyn Waugh, and actors Joan Plowright and Pete Postlethwaite. Further down the list appear blues musician Eric Clapton, the chair of of the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain, a four-time British hairdresser of the year, and the entire English rugby team, who each receive MBEs.
