EVEN CHOMSKY DISAGREES WITH WALT & MEARSHEIMER: Via Jeff Weintraub. Too funny:
The thesis [Mearsheimer and Walt] propose does however have plenty of appeal. The reason, I think, is that it leaves the US government untouched on its high pinnacle of nobility, "Wilsonian idealism," etc., merely in the grip of an all-powerful force that it canot escape. It's rather like attributing the crimes of the past 60 years to "exaggerated Cold War illusions," etc. Convenient, but not too convincing. In either case.
And more of the same from Joseph Massad:
I contend that the attraction of [the Israel lobby] argument is that it exonerates the United States' government from all the responsibility and guilt that it deserves for its policies in the Arab world and gives false hope to many Arabs and Palestinians who wish America would be on their side instead of on the side of their enemies.
I don't see it as false hope. If the US government is the terrorist entity that Chomsky and Massad describe, why wouldn't it support Fatah, Hamas and other great Arab political movements?

One man's terrorist is another man's blah, blah, blah. The only pleasent thought is that if the team that these idiots cheerlead ever win, they will be the first to be lined up and shot.
