THE HAND OF JORDAN: Iraq's Prime Minister al-Maliki claims that Jordanian intelligence played a role in locating Zarqawi (Hat-tip, Andrew Sullivan), as well as local intelligence.

How much has Zarqawi contributed to people's willingness to help track him? Perhaps some blowback from Zarqawi's attacks on the hotel in Amman last year? Perhaps also his murderous methods have alienated locals?

Does this suggest some hope for the wider effort to combat the insurgent element of civil strife in Iraq, that extremism breeds its own opponents?
