Diehl gives solid reasons why the administration should've backed up its rhetoric about promoting democracy by focusing on this conference: 1) Unlike most international forums, this one has defined democracy strictly, thus preventing states such as Egypt, Pakistan and Malaysia from attending. 2) Coordinated diplomatic efforts by the world's democracies can do significant things, such as kick terrorist states like Syria off the UN Human Rights Commission Diehl's bottom line: it's time for the administration to put it's money where it's mouth is when it comes to democracy promotion...
