GIVE ME YOUR TIRED, YOUR POOR, YOUR HUDDLED MASSES...OH, F*** IT: From the WaPo:
Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy told Parliament on Tuesday that France did not want "those people that nobody else in the world wants." He added, "We want selective immigration."
American immigration laws are far from perfect, but I won't hesitate to say that what continues to make our nation great is precisely the fact that we have welcomed so many millions of the unwanted and given them the right to become full-fledged Americans.

Hi,
American immigration policy is also selective. It is nice to believe otherwise, however it is simply not true that American immigration policy is any different. I am a foreigner myself, and I am aware of such distinctions. There is a reason for the large number of illegal immigrants in the country.

Having said this, I am pretty sure that French society is considerably more screwed up in dealing with foreigners.

The American immigration policy is pretty different compared to other countries. You would get deported from most of the western european countries easier than from the US. The US immigation policy is selective with the legal immigrants, and it's rather random than logical. Unfortunately the authorities don't care about the illegal aliens in this country and I'm sure that some day, when it's going to be too late, we'll hear a silly excuse, like we often do in this country.
