AMI AYALON, due to take over the defence portfolio from Shaul Mofaz in a Labour or Kadima victory, talks to the Sunday Times. Admiral Ayalon continues to be an interesting man - a former commando and Shin Bet chief who espouses 'open city' status for Jerusalem and the 1967 borders, and founded The People's Voice together with Dr Sari Nusseibeh. (Nusseibeh also a tremendously interesting character here, increasingly a renegade amongst Palestinians for his flexibility on the right of return, and married to the lovely daughter of Oxford philosopher J.L. Austin.)
