ANTI-SEMITISM AT HARVARD? (THE ABBREVIATED VERSION): The next post presents a long series of quotations from a recent paper by two prominent scholars attacking the Israel Lobby for distorting U.S. foreign policy. The purpose of these quotations is to let readers judge for themselves whether the paper deserves to be labeled as anti-Semitic. For those who don't have the time to read through the entire post, I have reproduced a short selection of quotations below:
The overall thrust of U.S. policy in the [Middle East] is due almost entirely to U.S. domestic politics, and especially to the activities of the "Israel Lobby." (p.1)

In terms of actual behavior, Israel’s conduct is not morally distinguishable from the actions of its opponents. (p.11)

The bottom line is that AIPAC, which is a de facto agent for a foreign government, has a stranglehold on the U.S. Congress. (p.18)

No discussion of how the Lobby operates would be complete without examining one of its most powerful weapons: the charge of anti-Semitism.(p.24)

Within the United States, the main driving force behind the Iraq war was a small band of neoconservatives, many with close ties to Israel’s Likud Party. (p.31)

Thanks to the Lobby, the United Stateshas become the de facto enabler of Israeli expansion in the occupied territories, making it complicit in the crimes perpetrated against the Palestinians. (p.41)
