LAMONT ISN'T McGOVERN! (HE'S DUKAKIS.) That was the main idea advanced by Peter Beinart in his Aug. 28 column [subscription required]. It's an important distinction, since McGovern was further to the left than 95% of today's Democrats.

That's probably fair enough regarding Lamont.

If Republicans want to use a particular candidate to tar Democrats with, they could do a lot worse than the spectre of impeached perjuring bribed judge Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL) taking over the Intelligence Committee. Jane Harman is getting pushed aside (Caucus Term Limits, or too moderate for the caucus, I'm not sure.) Brr.
Is this some kind of Democratic riddle game: "Which Loser Am I"?
