COMMISSION IMPOSSIBLE is the clever title of an essay by my friend Jordan Tama at theatlantic.com. Jordan is writing his dissertation at Princeton on the subject of bipartisan, blue-ribbon panels and their ability to influence public debate and public policy. Well worth a read.

What a great topic on which to do a dissertation - opportunity for a lot of breadth.

The ISG report (I did a quick-read outline of its 79 rec on my silly blog-o-blog, here) was not a Presidential request, but a Presidential acquiescence. I wonder if that has been an historically important factor?
