MY LATEST RANT: For anyone interested, I've been lucky enough to have something published in Parameters.
And thanks to the readers who chimed in on past discussions about war, strategic culture, Herodotus and much else besides. Enjoy!

A very interesting essay. Congratulations. The problem here isn't so much anthropological approaches to war, but a kind of naive culturalism long abandoned in the majority of social sciences.

There's a larger argument here about our tendency to explain specific differences with reference to overarching cultural traits, a tendency that you rightly flag as endemic not only to certain classes of scholars, but also practitioners.

Thanks Daniel!
