AND IN THE NEW YEAR, new state laws are taking effect all around the United States. Among them- in New York, state law now requires that credit card receipts only include a few digits from your credit card number; Illinois extends the statute of limitations in child sex abuse cases to permit prosecutors to bring charges against Catholic priests who would otherwise be protected by statute of limitations; Illinois also prohibits tattoo shops and other non-dentist providers from splitting the tongues of midwestern teenagers (and whoever said there was nothing for teenagers to do in the midwest?); and Tennessee cracks down on mattress fraud (a huge Tennessean scandal, we're told) by requiring vendors to display prominently on mattresses whether they are new or used.
