AND IN THE NEW YEAR, new state laws are taking effect all around the United States. Among them- in New York, state law now requires that credit card receipts only include a few digits from your credit card number; Illinois extends the statute of limitations in child sex abuse cases to permit prosecutors to bring charges against Catholic priests who would otherwise be protected by statute of limitations; Illinois also prohibits tattoo shops and other non-dentist providers from splitting the tongues of midwestern teenagers (and whoever said there was nothing for teenagers to do in the midwest?); and Tennessee cracks down on mattress fraud (a huge Tennessean scandal, we're told) by requiring vendors to display prominently on mattresses whether they are new or used. Enjoy all of these fun and exciting new laws!
